Treats - Especially Nice Places

Its always risky making a personal recommendation, but there are a few places around here which are just too good not to mention:

The Golden Lion is a particular good pub and fortunately for us is situated in our local village of Tipton St John.

Just up the road and through the woods from us is “Combe House” one of the country’s best country house hotels and restaurant.  It is located just on the edge of Gittisham village which is probably the most beautiful East Devon village and worth a visit itself. Not surprisingly for a coastal area we have some excellent fish restaurants. Notably the Drewe Arms at Payhembury and Neil's Restaurant in Sidmouth.

In Branscombe, there is a lovely National Trust Tea Shop in what was formerly the Old Bakery.  It has very pleasant gardens and an interesting working forge across the lane.  From the Tea Shop you can also do a short walk across fields to the Mill; all owned by the National Trust. Also in Branscombe is a particularly good pub called the Fountain Inn, well known for its excellent ales including the local Branscombe Brewery Beer.

On the farm, we have some seasonal highlights to enjoy the most popular being lambing in December and January which is universally a big hit with children (an adults!).

In October there is apple picking to be done in our old orchards.  Traditional orchards are very special, peaceful places and we are sure apple picking is a therapeutic antidote to modern life.  It works for us!  You are welcome to help with apple picking, with gusto, or just for an hour on a sunny afternoon.  Either way, it usually earns you a bottle of apple juice or cider which we make on the farm in November.
